Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap for March 12, 2024

The Kern County Board of Supervisors met today as scheduled for Tuesday’s March 12, 2024, Board Meeting. Supervisor Phillip Peters (District 1), Supervisor Zack Scrivner (District 2), Supervisor Jeff Flores (District 3), Chairman David Couch (District 4), and Supervisor Leticia Perez (District 5) were in attendance. Meeting Highlights: 

  • Item No. 9 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement for Public Health to apply for and accept grant funding from Public Health Foundation Enterprises, Inc., DBA Heluna Health, to provide for Parent Child Interaction Therapy training and services through June of 2025.
  • Item No. 13 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with the Foundation for California Community Colleges for the provision of workforce development services and paid work experience for students with disabilities under the Student Employment and Training program through June of 2026.
  • Item No. 15 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with the Foundation for Community Colleges to provide Fresh Success CalFresh Employment and Training program services to non-exempt CalFresh and general assistance benefit recipients through November of 2024.
  • Items No. 19 – 22 AM session:
  • The Board approved a series of agreements between Public Health and the Delano Union School District, Kern High School District, Lakeside Union School District, and the Standard School District for administration of school-based immunizations, commencing March 12, 2024.
  • Item No. 26 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District for administration of school-based immunizations, commencing March 12, 2024.
  • Item No. 31 AM session:
  • The Board approved the purchase of 87 off-the-lot police pursuit vehicles and buildout of those vehicles due to immediate need for the Sheriff’s Office, in addition to their request for mid-year capital asset acquisition of 37 off-the-lot SUV half-ton law enforcement vehicles.
  • This investment heavily supports KCSO’s ability to protect Kern County residents and provide the highest quality service.
  • Item No. 11 PM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with Mattress Recycling Council, Inc. to provide recycling services for the used mattresses brought into Public Works, in benefit of Kern County residents.
  • Item No. 19 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $750 to the Committee for Safe Graduation, Inc. to support Ridgecrest safe graduation activities.
  • Item No. 20 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $500 to H.E.A.R.T.S Connections to support children with disabilities, $500 to the Centennial High School, We the People Program, to support student activities, and $500 to the Leaders in Life Youth Conference to support student leadership opportunities and skill-building.
  • Item No. 21 PM session:
  • The Board voted to adopt the 2024 state and federal legislative platform.
